Discover New Underwater MultiCultural Communities

Why do people love traveling? Travel is a chance to bring a little bit of excitement in someone’s day to day life. It also gives the travellers the opportunity to interact with new cultures where people look and behave differently. Scuba travel is not all that different.

You may be surprised to learn that you have different “fish cultures” in different parts of the world. If you’re looking for a new type of underwater adventure, maybe it’s time to jump into a different puddle of water!

I’ve listed below some particularly unique fish species living in the regions below. If you’ve got any to add to the list, feel free to pass them on.

Australia

  • Western Australia (Perth) : Dozens of Sea Horses (Night Dive, Swan River)
  • Eastern Australia (Sydney) : Leafy Sea Dragons

Galapagos

  • Esmerelda Island, Night Dive: Strangely human-looking Batfish bottom dwellers
  • Various Islands: Hammerheads, Marble Rays

Carribbean

  • Vertically-swimming Trumpetfish and sharp-tooth barracuda fish are often seen.
  • Elegant spotted drumfish are quite a unique but memorable sighting

Mexico

  • Cozumel : Strangely flat headed Toad Fish are often found hiding in crevaces waiting for a good meal

Canada

  • Freshwater Lakes (Lake Ontario) : Mud Puppies (Salamanders found at 20m below)
  • Western Canada : Plumose Anemonies (Albino white coral found in large quantities, particularly over wrecks, and can be as high as 1 meter.)
  • Western Canada : Giant Octopus

Indonesia / Micronesia / Papua New Guinea

  • A fascinating array of microscopic creatures including the pink pygmy sea horse

And of course don’t forget the nudibranchs are COMPLETELY different from one region to another… front the flamingo tongues and thumbprint patterned nudibranchs of the Carribbean to the bright indigo blue nudribranchs of the galapagos to bright orange and blue Western Australian nudibranchs… there’s no shortage of variety in this underwater species.

So, grab your gear, hop on a plane and get ready for your underwater multicultural adventure!
