Do I Really Want to Break My Duck?

Breaking your duck is all about making that giant (or sometimes not so giant) leap into the unknown.

The expression “Break Your Duck” comes from a British idiom which means doing something for the first time.   So whether it’s a completely new adventure or just giving an interesting new twist to an everyday activity, you are getting into “breaking your duck” territory.

So, if life has lately been a little too routine for you lately, breaking your duck is a great way to create a little more excitment and adrenaline in your day.

Why Bother?  Will Breaking Your Duck Make Me Live Longer?

Breaking your duck has numerous health and social benefits!

Trying out a new adventure gives your mind, particularly your imagination, some good old fashioned exercise.  By doing something new, you are creating a new behavioural pattern in your mind (undertaking routine activities sets your body in auto-mode so breaking your duck gets you thinking more).  The element of risk involved in doing something new also gives you a shot of adrenaline and raises your heartbeat.

On the social side, break your duck activities are great for drumming up conversations and you will find yourself soon surrounded by a curious and engaged audience.

Overall, breaking your duck will make you feel creative, exciting and alive!  What could be healthier?

Will it hurt? Is it going to cost me a lot of money?

It might… but it doesn’t have to.

There are tons of new experiences that can be done for little or no money.  And, you’d be surprised, that many of them (but not all!) are pretty low risk physically. The toughest part of breaking your duck is actually about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something that you have never done, seen or tasted before.

Have fun and don’t forget to tell us all about your adventures !
