Now We’re Making Some Noise

Here’s a fireworks show that will redefine the genre and show you the medium’s true colours.

Should an entertainment troupe dare to press the boundaries of safety – against all liability risks – to bring fireworks closer to the audience then has ever been done before? Should they present them playfully and boldly?

“Crackers!” Fireworks Show didn’t hesitate to come out with a bang at the Sydney Festival in January 2007.

When it comes to fireworks, it takes a lot to impress me.

I have seen many firework shows, international pyrotechnic competitions, have studied fireworks at school and have even played around with some questionable chemicals and a blowtorch at home to produce “pretty colours”.

So what impressed me the most with the Crackers! show was not the bright colours, the loud noises but their boldness in getting closer to the audience and using the fireworks in new, dramatic and daring ways ;

  • “Roman Candle” type fireworks that would shoot up in a transparent tube that is closed off at the top, so that the fireworks get stuck at the top and wiggle around as they fizzle out.
  • Comet-like pyrotechnics that go around in circles to make a dazzling effect, while other comet format fireworks that are tied on cables between poles went shooting by horizontal a mere few metres above one’s head.
  • Several sculptures shaped like humans surrounding the crowd were suddenly lit up by thousands of small fireworks and then glowed red as they burnt slowly to a crisp over a dozen minutes.
  • A dozen people standing on podiums, slightly above the crowd, with fireworks laid across their heads and arms swayed to the sound of gentle classical tunes.

Kudos to them for going there and blowing people away !
