Bust a Pinata

One easter, we decided to celebrate the joyous holiday by setting up a pinata in a nearby park. A great time – and many a laugh – was had by all.

What Do You Need?

Other than the pinata (which you should be able to buy at a local party items store), you’ll need a long rope (to tie it to the tree branch), a big stick, a blindfold (a bandana will work well), and some willing participants.

Plus, you also need some goodies to fill the pinata…like those alcohol flavoured chocolates (you’ll never see adults scramble so fast!) !!!

Setting it Up

Find a tree in an open area with a branch that is relatively low (no less than 8 feet and no more than 20 feet high) and horizontal enough to hold the rope at the desired location. Then you’ll need to tie one end of the rope to the pinata and the other you will need to send over the branch above. It may help to tie the latter end of the rope to a piece of wood to help you get it over the branch. Once it is over, pull on the free end of the rope to raise the pinata into the air, just a foot above the participants heads.

Playing the Game

When the first participant is ready, blindfold him so that he can’t see, make sure he has the stick in his hands and turn him around three times so he loses his orientation. Then he must try for 30 seconds to hit the pinata — the crowd cna help him by telling him where it is. Meanwhile the person who is holding the other end of the rope can pull on it a little to make it go up and down as well as left and right. This makes it very tough for the participant to hit it… and of course, very fun to watch!

A Little Creativity Doesn’t Hurt… Too Much Anyways

There are different ways you can add your own twist to the old Pinata game. Mainly, think of all the ways you can switch up the game after people are blindfolded. Here are some pictures of a few ideas to get you thinking!

“Where is it? Where is it?”

Now hitting something this hard would be a big surprise eh?

If the Pinata falls off it’s string, it’s time for “Pinata Baseball”!

You can also have lots of fun by having someone tug on the other end of the string everynow and then so the pinata moves in all directions and becomes much tougher to hit and much more fun to watch.
