Have Theme? Will Party.

What better way to go crazy then to coordinate a themed party event. Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to throwing themed parties and have a few ideas to share with you. If you have any ideas too… I want to hear them!!

Wig Party

…where everybody can wear crazy wigs! It’s good way to warm up your friends on themed parties on a simple one like this… they won’t have to get too much arranged to get dressed up and by the end of the party they’ll be begging you for more!

SuperHero & Villain Party

This leaves a lot of room for creativity. I was Batman’s romantic nemesis Poison Ivy and dressed up my entire apartment like a jungle. We had green and red garlands drapping over doorways and hanging from the ceiling, dark lights and even turned one of my chairs into a huge venus flytrap with a little bit of felt and string. Some of the costumes included some great classics like Clark Kent suit with shirt open to reveal Superman shirt underneath, G.I. Joe’s Cobra Commander, Super Elmo and the Ghost Busters.

Disco Fever Party

From white jackets with gold chains to brightly coloured polyesther dresses… every one had a blast dressing up for this party. Of course, the music was themed accordindly. We added funky posters with “Do I make you horny?!”, etc, around the rooms and added beads to the doorways…. kept getting caught in people’s afros though.

Toga Party

Since high school, I have always heard about Toga parties but even in university, I never came across any so I decided it was time to throw one of my own. The funniest thing was watching people trying to figure out how to put a toga on – it’s not as easy as it looks. Still, there are tons of sites online that can help you put on a toga.

I must say though that I was really impressed with the variety of togas that made an appearance that night. We had everything from decadent plush purple velvet togas with laurels (!very ceasar!) to buddhist monk robes to togas made with kids baseball bedsheets. It was hilarious. I even rented a cherub-adorned vase as my center piece and added plastic vines and grapes around the apartment for added effect. Of course, lots of real grapes and red wine was served too.

Tacky Tourist Party

It’s the middle of January and I’m looking for a reason to party! It didn’t take too long when I realized tons of people every year flock south to the beaches of the Carribbean and Mexico. And so my vision for a middle of winter party was born. I decided I would hold a Tacky Tourist Party for all of my friends who were still stuck in cold Canada. Dressed up as Chiquita Banana with platic fruit dangling from my ears and neck, I was pleased to see my guest list included the badly stereotypical Japanese tourist toting a camera, also badly stereotypical loud american tourists with loud-coloured shorts, Canadian tourists patriotically donning their flag and the oh-to-glamourous beach bunnies. We had it all… fruit punch, reggae tunes, palm tree decorations, torches on the balcony and even a pinata!

Flashy 80s Jam

As with the 80s Disco party, there was plenty of costume ideas available for this bash. Everything from thin leather ties, teased hair and too much make-up to madonna-esque boustiers and lace as well as glamour rock getups. Just for fun, I left a few rubic cubes around.

Other party theme ideas include bashes featuring uniforms, the number seven, specific colours, horror movies, a country or specific historical period (ie. cavemen). That should give you a bunch of ideas for inspiration !

Now, once you’re all set with your theme, you can use this party planning guide to help you get organized on the minutia so that you can really focus on making the most on that theme.
