Here’s a new spin on the dinner party theme. Invite 8-12 friends for a round-the-world dumpling party!
Everyone gets involved in making and then of course eating the dumplings.
Choose 5 dumpling recipes from around the world (easy to find on Google these days). My recommendations are : Japanese Pork and Chive Fried Gyoza, Hong Kong YumCha Prawn Dumplings (HarGow), Tibetan Cheese & Vegetable Dumpling, Brazilian Cheese bread (looks like a dumpling!), Indian Veggie & Potato Curry Samosa, and, I have invented a recipe to match my local flavours : Aussie (1 – Meat Pie & Peas in a Dumpling and 2 – Beetroot & Macadamia Nut).
Choose 3-4 dipping sauces (either pre purchased, or someone in the group could make them).
Make sure you have some raw veggies, olives and nuts available for munching on the side as they go.
Split up the work amongst the group :
2 people to prepare the dough
1-2 people for each mixture / dumpling type
1-2 people to help with filling/folding the dumplings
1-2 people for making the dips
1-2 people to steam and/or fry the dumplings
Ensure you also have enough WOKs, Fryers and Steamers (you’ll need at least 4 at a time) to cook them all.
Make sure people take breaks when the food is ready to eat the dumplings immediately once done and while they are hot !
Bon appetite !
