Organic Shapes Hiding in the Hills (Canada)

These strangely eroded mounds of soil and rock named “Hoodoos” are located in the Badlands area near Drumheller, Alberta, only a few hours away from Calgary. And Canada is certainly the last place I expected to see such an odd lunar landscape.

The Hoodoos are mounds of soil and rock that have been eroded by the natural forces over time. While these are very unique and fragile formation, I was somewhat shocked to see no one around supervising the site. It’s impressive to see that after years of tourism, however, the hoodoos have somehow managed to stay mostly intact with very little supervision and policing.

Best time to visit the area is in the winter or June/July on a day that isn’t too hot. When we went in May, the soil became very muddy and I slipped along the marked path a few times, but I hear it gets very hot and dry in the top summer months so those are best avoided.
